Cinema/Chicago, the presenting organization of the annual Chicago International Film Festival, offers on-going (unpaid) internships (minimum 3-months basis) for students and young professionals who are interested to acquire hands-on experiences through their internships. Applicants must be of college level or higher. Successful performance and completion of internship may lead to paid seasonal positions during the fall Festival season.


Assistant to Founder & Artistic Director (Chicago International Film Festival) - Now Hiring

Unpaid Internship. Flexible hours at least 20-40 hours a week for Chicago International Film Festival, a nonprofit cultural organization. 

Content:

This internship is designed to give interns insight into the workings of an international film festival. Interns will become one of Michael Kutza's assistants, helping him with all aspects required in the staging of upcoming events. 

Responsibilities:

  • Concept/Marketing development
  • Artistic integrity maintenance
  • Overall festival direction

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Good writing and communication skills.

Arts Administration (Cinema/Chicago and the Chicago International Film Festival) - Now Hiring

Unpaid Internship. Flexible hours, at least 20 hours a week. Flexible start date.

Content:

This internship is designed to give an intern experience in planning and coordinating Cinema/Chicago's year-round events International Screenings Program (June-September) and the Chicago International Film Festival (October).

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with coordinating the International Screenings Program, a free film series held at the Chicago Cultural Center
  • Assist in preparations leading up to and during the Chicago International Film Festival, including special events, audience development and analysis, marketing and publicity.

This internship is designed to give interns insight into programming for an international film festival. Interns will assist programmers overseeing feature-length narratives, documentaries, and short films with all aspects of the programming process.

Development (Cinema/Chicago and the Chicago International Film Festival) - Summer/Fall Positions Filled

Unpaid Internship. Flexible hours at least 20 hours a week. Hiring both for Spring 2014 and Summer/Fall 2014 (preferably July through the end of the Festival in October).

Content:

This internship is designed to give intern experience working with Film Festival staff to put on the annual Chicago International Film Festival and to provide support for Festival staff. During off-Festival period, the intern will experience the administration and management aspects of the other cultural and educational programs that Cinema/Chicago presents.

Responsibilities:

  • Help with our Membership Program; member mailings and monthly film screenings.
  • Assist with the research of sponsorship for programs and events including: Chicago International Television Competition, CineYouth Festival, International Screenings Program and the 50th Chicago International Film Festival

Education Outreach Internship - Now Hiring

Unpaid Internship. Flexible hours at 2 to 3 days per week.

Content:

The Outreach Intern will assist in all aspects of Cinema/Chicago’s Education Outreach Program.

Responsibilities:

  • Updating educator databases
  • Assisting in the development of film study guides and lesson plans
  • Organizing mailings
  • Coordinating specifics for events - buses, screening rooms, equipment, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Interest in media education and preferred familiarity with public school systems
  • Background in education or film/media studies
  • Good communication skills – should be able to work in a very fast-paced environment
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Fall interns must have morning availability during the Chicago International Film Festival (October 9-23, 2014)

Webpage Production (Chicago International Film Festival) - Hiring Summer 2014

Unpaid Internship. Flexible hours at least 20 hours a week working on the Chicago International Film Festival site before and during the Festival. August - November

Content:

This internship is designed to give intern experience in website maintenance for the annual Chicago International Film Festival website. Intern would work directly with both Festival staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with festival staff to update and modify current site

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Good communication skills
  • Very detail oriented
  • Organized
  • Strong Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Photoshop or comparable web design applications

Event Management (Cinema/Chicago and the Chicago International Film Festival) - Hiring Summer 2014

Unpaid Internship. Flexible hours at least 20 hours a week, 3 days/week, minimum 3 months duration for Cinema/Chicago, a nonprofit cultural organization. Flexible start date.

Content:

This internship is designed to give intern experience in event management for all the special events staged by Cinema/Chicago on a year round basis. Intern would work directly with event managers to organize and produce the various events, namely: the Chicago International Television Competition (April) honoring the best in television programming and commercials; the International Screenings Program (May - September); the CineYouth Festival (May); the Summer Film Gala benefit (TBA);  and any other special events/presentations/panels during the 50th Chicago International Film Festival, October 9-23, 2014.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the different events managers or programmers in coordinating all aspects of each different event in putting together the budget, creating the timeline, liaisoning with special committees,  mailing out of any promotional materials or invitations, acquiring adequate equipment, coordinating guestlists, and finally producing the event and providing actual event on-site support.

  • Must have coursework and/or event planning experience.

Marketing/Publicity (Cinema/Chicago and the Chicago International Film Festival) - Hiring Summer 2014

Unpaid Internship. Flexible hours at least 20 hours/week, 3 days/week and a minimum of 3 months for Cinema/Chicago and the Chicago International Film Festival, a nonprofit cultural organization. Start anytime.

Content:

This internship is designed to give real-world experience in both marketing and promotion of a nonprofit cultural organization. Intern works directly with Cinema/Chicago's Marketing Manager and other staff members to assist in developing and securing community support for Cinema/Chicago events and the 50th Chicago International Film Festival, October 9-23, 2014.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Marketing Manager in preparing marketing and press materials for distribution.
  • Help to ensure that information on Cinema/Chicago's upcoming events and the Festival is available to all community centers, cultural institutions, consulates as well as all ethnic media around the city.
  • Help to create the most effective presentation of Festival materials and opportunities for potential involvement of other cultural groups and organizations.
  • Assist in arranging functions/events for the Festival that involve cultural groups and organizations.
  • Update and maintain community, cultural and media outreach lists.
  • Work with Festival Programmers to promote Festival films.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Must have some coursework in marketing and public relations.
  • Ability to work independently
  • Good writing and communication skills

Writing & Editing (Chicago International Film Festival) - Hiring Summer 2014

Unpaid Internship. Flexible hours at least 20 hours a week for Chicago International Film Festival, a nonprofit cultural organization. August - October.

Content:

This internship is designed to give intern experience in writing and editing film descriptions for the Annual Chicago International Film Festival Program Book and Schedule. Intern would work directly with graphic designer and head writer to create both a schedule (promotional writing), program book (magazine-style descriptions), event invitations and speeches in an exciting Festival environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist graphic designer and head writer with creation of festival materials. Including: schedule, program book, invitations, and speeches.
  • Work with festival staff to create best depiction of the festival.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Good writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to use both PC’s and Macintosh computers or willingness to learn.
  • Foreign language ability desirable.
