Cinema/Chicago, the presenting organization of the Chicago International Film Festival, offers unpaid internships (minimum 3-months basis) for students and young professionals who are interested in acquiring hands-on experiences in the Chicago film community. Applicants must be of college level or higher.


Assistant to Founder & Artistic Director – How Hiring
This internship is designed to give insight into the direction of an international film festival. Interns act as Assistant to Festival Founder & Artistic Director Michael Kutza, assisting him with all aspects of staging upcoming events and initiatives. 
Responsibilities include concept and marketing development, artistic integrity maintenance and overall Festival direction assistance. Flexible hours, at least 20 hours a week required.  

Skills & Qualifications: 

  • Good writing and communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to work under a deadline
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word and Access
  • Foreign language ability desirable
  • Knowledge of Final Cut Studio desirable

Arts Administration  - Now Hiring
This internship is designed to give an intern experience in planning and coordinating Cinema/Chicago’s year-round events including the International Screenings Program (June-September) and the Chicago International Film Festival (October). Responsibilities include assisting with coordinating the International Screenings Program and with the Chicago International Film Festival’s special events, audience development and analysis, marketing and publicity. Flexible hours, at least 20 hours a week required.

Programming  - Positions Filled through December 2014
This internship is designed to give interns insight into programming for an international film festival. Interns will assist programmers overseeing feature-length narratives, documentaries, and short films with all aspects of the programming process. Responsibilities include programming administrative assistance, professional correspondence with filmmakers and film contacts, database management and film evaluation. Flexible hours, at least 20 hours a week.

Development – Summer/Fall Positions Filled through December 2014
This internship is designed to give interns experience working with Festival staff to put on the annual Chicago International Film Festival and to provide support for Festival staff. During off-Festival period, the intern will experience the administration and management aspects of the other cultural and educational programs that Cinema/Chicago presents.Flexible hours at least 20 hours a week. Responsibilities include assisting with Membership Program (member mailings and monthly film screenings) and assisting with the research of sponsorship for programs and events including the Chicago International Television Competition, CineYouth Festival, International Screenings Program and Chicago International Film Festival.

Education Outreach – Summer/Fall Positions Filled through December 2014
This internship is designed to give interns a hands-on experience programming, managing and evaluating Cinema/Chicago’s Education Outreach Program. Responsibilities include updating education databases, assisting in the development of film study guides and lesson plans, organizing mailings and coordinating specifics for events including the CineYouth Festival and Education Outreach Screening Program. Flexible hours at 2-3 days per week, 16 hours a week minimum.

Webpage Production (Chicago International Film Festival) – Fall 2014
This internship is designed to give intern experience in website maintenance for the annual Chicago International Film Festival website. Intern would work directly with both Festival staff.Responsibilities include working with Festival staff to update and modify content on Festival website. Flexible hours at least 20 hours a week working on the Chicago International Film Festival site before and during the Festival. August – November only.

Event Management  - Hiring Summer/Fall 2014
This internship is designed to give experience in event management for events staged by Cinema/Chicago. Intern works directly with event managers to organize and produce the any special events/presentations/panels during the 50th Chicago International Film Festival, October 9-23, 2014. Responsibilities include 
coordinating  budgets,  timelines, liaising with special committees,  mailing out promotional materials or invitations, acquiring adequate equipment, coordinating guest lists, providing on-site support. Flexible hours and start date, minimum 20 hours per week, more hours required during the Festival.

Marketing/Publicity  - Hiring Summer/Fall 2014
This internship is designed to give real-world experience in both marketing and promotion of a nonprofit cultural organization. Intern works directly with Marketing Manager and other staff members to assist in developing and securing community support for events and the 50th Chicago International Film Festival, October 9-23, 2014. Responsibilities include assisting the Marketing Manager in preparing marketing and press materials for distribution, ensuring information on events is available to all community centers, cultural institutions, consulates as well as all ethnic media around the city, creating the most effective presentation of Festival materials and opportunities for potential involvement of other cultural groups and organizations, assisting in arranging functions/events for the Festival that involve cultural groups and organizations, updating and maintaining community, cultural and media outreach lists and working with Festival programmers to promote Festival films. Flexible hours and start date, minimum 20 hours per week, more hours required during the Festival.

Writing & Editing (Chicago International Film Festival) – Hiring Summer/Fall 2014
Content:This internship is designed to give intern experience in writing and editing film descriptions for the Annual Chicago International Film Festival Program Book and Schedule. Intern would work directly with graphic designer and head writer to create both a schedule (promotional writing), program book (magazine-style descriptions), event invitations and speeches in an exciting Festival environment.Responsibilities include assisting graphic designer and editor with creation of festival materials including schedule, program book, invitations, and speeches. August – November, minimum 20 hours per week, more hours required during the Festival.
