CineYouth is excited to announce the 24 Hour Film Challenge!

Held at Columbia College Chicago's brand new Media Production Center during CineYouth 2011 on May 6-7, the 24 Hour Film Challenge will give participating students the opportunity to work on a live film set, with quality cameras, lighting/sound equipment and under the supervision of professional Chicago filmmakers.

May 6

Narrative Short Film

Following a filmmaking demo, and working from the same provided script and with the same parameters, participating students will be broken into three teams. Each team will be assigned a set, and team members will be assigned roles and an adult mentor. Following a working production lunch, student filmmakers will have three hours to shoot their three minute short film. Mystery costumes and props will be provided and teams must work to incorporate these items into their film.

Documentary Short Film

Following a filmmaking demo, one team will be assigned with the task of documenting the activities of the day. From capturing moments with other student filmmakers, to exploring the entire space of the live set, the documentary group will work together to formulate their film's message and point of view.

May 7

One to three selected team members (chosen by teams on May 6) will return to Columbia College Chicago to edit and finalize their film. An editing workshop will be held, followed by up to three hours of editing on Columbia College Chicago's editing equipment (Final Cut).

Finals films will be presented later that day at CineYouth's Award Ceremony. Certificates of completion will be given to all Challenge participants, and final films will shown at CineYouth's "Best of the Fest" screening at the 47th Chicago International Film Festival in October.
