CineYouth: Frequently Asked Questions

If you have any questions that aren't answered here, please email us at cineyouth@chicagofilmfestival.com. Who knows, your question might end up on this page!

Q: I teach a class or run an after school program that I think would enjoy coming to the CineYouth Festival. Do I need to let you know in advance?

A: If you plan to bring a group of students it would be great if you tell us in advance. We want to make sure we can accommodate your group size.

Q: How much is the submission fee for my film(s)?

A: The submission fee for each film is $15.00. However, if you are submitting as part of a school or other organization the more films you send the lower the fee.  We do offer fee waiver(s) for those that qualify, please contact Festival Director Rebecca Fons at rfons@chicagofilmfestival.com

Q: Who should I make my check out to for the submission fee?

A: Make you check or money order out to Cinema/Chicago

Q: I don't live in the United States, but I think my film would be great in your festival.

A: Please send it! We are now accepting international CineYouth submissions!

Q: I'm 22 years old now, but when I made my film I was 21. Is it still okay to submit?

A: It sure is! As long as you were 21 years or younger at the time you made the film it is okay to submit.

Q: I'm under 21 years of age, but some of my cast and crew was over 21, can I still submit?

A: Sure! As long as the main filmmaker was under 21 years of age when the film was completed. If the film was a group project, it is eligible as long as the average age of the group is under 21.

Q: Will I get my submission DVD back once I enter it?

A: No. We do not send entry DVDs back. Please make sure that you are not sending your master copy, it will not be returned to you.

Q: I've made a bunch of films that I want to submit. Is that okay?

A: Yes! You can submit as many films as you want, there is no limit! However, you must put each film on individual DVDs, no compilation discs.

Q: I'm coming to CineYouth this year! What should I wear?

A: There isn't a strict dress code for CineYouth. We have participants wear everything from tuxedos to flip flops. Wear whatever you are comfortable in and don't mind having your picture taken in.
