Q: Do you need volunteers?
A: Yes! We will need volunteers on the day of the Festival to help sign people in, serve food and hand out information. We will also need volunteers before hand to help out with mailings, etc. Please contact us if you are interested, we would love the help.
Q: I teach a class or run an after school program that I think would enjoy coming to the CineYouth Festival. Do I need to let you know in advance?
A: If you plan to bring a group of students it would be great if you tell us in advance. We want to make sure we can accommodate your group size.
Q: How much is the submission fee for my film(s)?
A: The submission fee for each film is $10.00. However, if you are submitting as part of a school or other organization the more films you send the lower the fee. You may send up to three entries for $15.00 or four or more entries will cost you just $20.00. So make sure you gather up all the projects from your group before submitting your film. We do offer fee waiver(s) for those that qualify, please contact Festival Director Rebecca Fons at rfons@chicagofilmfestival.com
Q: Who should I make my check out to for the submission fee?
A: Make you check or money order out to Cinema/Chicago
Q: I don't live in the United States, but I think my film would be great in your festival.
A: Unfortunately the festival is only for residents of the United States and Canada. We might expand the Festival for international submissions, so keep checking the website for updates on the 2011 CineYouth Festival.
Q: I'm 21 years old now, but when I made my film I was only 20. Is it still okay to submit?
A: It sure is! As long as you were 20 years or younger at the time you made the film it is okay to submit.
Q: I'm under 20 years of age, but some of my cast and crew was over 20, can I still submit?
A: Sure! As long as the main filmmaker was under 20 years of age when the film was completed. If the film was a group project, it is eligible as long as the average age of the group is under 20.
Q: Will I get my submission DVD back once I enter it?
A: No. We do not send entry DVDs back. Please make sure that you are not sending your master copy, it will not be returned to you.
Q: I've made a bunch of films that I want to submit. Is that okay?
A: Yes! You can submit as many films as you want, there is no limit! However, you must put each film on individual DVDs, no compilation discs. Compilation discs make it difficult for the jury to watch your film and for us to program if it is selected to CineYouth.
Q: I'm coming to CineYouth this year! What should I wear?
A: There isn't a strict dress code for CineYouth. We have participants wear everything from tuxedos to flip flops. Wear whatever you are comfortable in and don't mind having your picture taken in.
